Community Sport

All successful sports systems start with children in the community. The community is the nursery for all champions. This is where a life-long love of sport and physical activity begins and where children learn the basic skills and approach to competition that they develop as they move through their sporting lives.

VTARA’s goal is to plan and develop practical, economical sports facilities at a national, state and community level. We aim to institute basic sports and fitness activities for local communities with an emphasis on the positive social interaction of youth.

Participation in community sporting and physical activities helps to build happier, healthy and socially cohesive communities. They add value to people’s lives, enhance health and welfare and promote positive social behaviour.

Facilities

Access to appropriate facilities, including multi-purpose facilities, are essential for the promotion of healthy and happy communities and the creation of a strong sporting culture. Community facilities must be easy to manage and maintain.

Community Programs

Community based sports and physical activities programs must be designed to enable participation of all community members regardless of age, gender, cultural background or level of functionality. They emphasise fun and target specific outcomes such as Health (cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance and flexibility), Skill Development (agility, coordination, and technique) and Personal Skills (goal setting, perseverance, and commitment).

Facilitator Training

Community-focussed coaching is specialised. Community coaches are inspiring people who are passionate about helping others. Training and development for these coaches is vital for the sustainability of community-based programs and for a strong and vibrant sporting system.

Fitness Programs for Instructors

Physical fitness is an important element in community well-being. Properly trained and accredited exercise professionals help people reach their health and fitness goals through the design and delivery of safe, fun and effective training sessions. They assist in educating the community with advice on general health issues such as injury prevention, rehabilitation and nutrition.
